HOT POTATO via Hollywood, California - When Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao steps into the ring for the third time against his longtime nemesis lightweight champion, Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 12, he is going to knock the Chilango's head off.
"This fight is personal," says Pacquiao. "I am not saying I will knock him out. But, you know, I do not like that guy (referring to Marquez). He talks too much."
Pacquiao continues, "I'm not pissed off or angry but I am very motivated in this fight because what more do I need to do to prove that I'm going to win the fight."
Pacquiao, despite ranging anger inside of him in monstrosity, smiles and chuckles at times. And, then, he turns so serious with gripping hands and grinding jaws. He talks in much brevity. His dislikes of Marquez started after their last encounter in the ring in 2008. Marquez never stops ranting, saying "I beat Pacquiao twice and I will beat him again."
"Marquez has the freedom to make up a reason why he lost," Pacquiao argues.
According to Alex Ariza, Pacquiao's conditioning coach, Pacquiao, unlike in his previous fights, is "so motivated that he wakes up at 5:30 in the morning and extends extra miles on his daily training regimen".
"We want him to cool down a little bit. We know he does not like Marquez. But, we do not want him to fight with anger because it's going to affect his critical thinking." Ariza adds.
For Freedie Roach, award-winning trainer of the decade by the Boxing Writers Association of America and a retired boxer himself, "Pacquiao is different this time".
"Whenever I mention the name of Marquez to him, he looks at me intently showing anger in his eyes and walks away with no words." Roach adds.
Now with Pacquiao's right hand so developed with his power left, added to the rythym of his footwork, Marquez may have tremendous diffculty trying to figure out on how to stop him.
"Pacquiao would be too difficult to anticipate," concludes Roach.
For Pacquiao's promoter Top Rank Godfather Robert "Bob" Arum, "Pacquiao's victory is going to be decisive, one way or another".
And, "Pacquiao's right hand will resonate with that righteous anger." Arum exhorts.
